CD Review
25 Years Of chicago Blues Piano Vol. 2 Instrumentals
Barrellhouse Chuck
Viola Records
By Frank-John Hadley, Downbeat Magazine, Sept. 2006
The common characteristic among 16 instruments selected off eight earlier
albums for this compilation is the real intensity of feeling Barrelhouse
Chuck displays for his forefathers Pinetop Perkins Little Brother Montgomery
Sunnyland Slim. His bright, springy treble notes against the easy-rolling
bass ones give meaning to the word ebullience in settings ranging from
electric groups to a trio with B-3 organ & farfisa, to a duo with master
Erwin Helfer to a solo outing titled " Gigolo.
