"Prescription For The Blues"
The Sirens Records SR-5004 (www.thesirensrecords.com)
by Jim Santella -- Cadence
Prescription for the Blues brings back the old Blues. This is where Jazz and Blues developed and then grew profusely about 90 years ago: a piano player in a cozy room, singing about what goes around, and keeping everyone in good spirits. This music traveled all over the world through the last century and grew through its many phases. Singing and playing piano boogie-woogie and more, Chuck Goering stomps emotionally through a program designed to suit fans of all sizes and shapes. The music has international appeal. Pianist Erwin Helfer accompanies on "Prescription for the Blues" and the instrumental arrangement of "Ain't Nobody's Business". "Nutty Boogie" is a piano duet. Mentored by Sunnyland Slim and Brother Montgomery, Barrelhouse Chuck has the disposition to fill the room with piano tremelos and romping arpeggios. His vocal interpretations come as natural as the sun and the moon. Goering's prescription works better than most remedies for the blues.
